An infinite FAQ is a FAQ that never runs out: the last row is a question field, and AI answers the next question as a new row in the same list. No chatbot window, and the FAQ schema you approved stays untouched.
The idea went viral on X in September 2026. Gustavo (@heyimgustavo) posted a short clip captioned «infinite faq»: a plain FAQ with one last row where you can ask anything else. It has passed 1.3 million views.
The clip shows the concept. What it can’t show is what happens when you ship it on a real business website, with search engines, legal limits and customers who take answers literally. We run our own version on nettsmed.no. Here is what we decided, and why.
Why a static FAQ stops one question too early
Most business websites have a tidy FAQ. It ends where the list ends. A customer reads «How much does a website cost?» and immediately thinks: What about a web shop? Is payment included? Then nothing. They call, or they leave.
The FAQ isn’t wrong. Fixed questions are a snapshot, and the conversation the customer wants is one question longer. The fix is to take that next question where the reader already is.
How our infinite FAQ works

It should feel like a FAQ that knows more, not a chatbot that moved into your FAQ.
3 decisions the viral demo doesn’t show
- Humans own the schema. Rank Math generates FAQPage schema from the curated rows on the server. AI rows are added in the browser after the last row, so they can never end up in the JSON-LD. Google only sees what you signed off.
- AI answers are labelled. Every generated row gets its own icon, an «AI answer» tag and one line saying we haven’t reviewed it. Readers should see what has been quality-checked.
- Answers come from the page you’re on. The ask row uses a separate, fast path limited to the page’s own content. It doesn’t search the whole site and it doesn’t invent sources.
Google’s documentation on FAQPage structured data expects the markup to mirror content that is visible on the page. That is why the temporary AI answers stay out of it.
Where the answers come from
Answers are grounded in the page content. It’s the same principle we used when we made a membership register available to AI: the model may read, never write, and only from sources we chose. That project took four hours from an empty repo until ChatGPT could answer membership questions.
In our recordings, the first word arrived after 3–5 seconds and the full answer a few seconds later. If a question falls outside what the page covers, it says so and points to a human.
What an infinite FAQ should not do
It is not an adviser, a quote engine or a price list. It should not:
- promise prices, deadlines or contract terms it has no basis for
- pretend every AI answer is a new FAQ row in the schema
- replace site-wide AI search when a question needs the whole website
When an answer gets too thin or too important, it hands over to a person. That’s a feature, not a failure. If you need a conversation across your entire site, an AI chatbot for WordPress is the better tool.
